I should start out by saying that I am a huge Beatles fan. But, I will go on record as saying that I am an even bigger solo John Lennon fan. His views, his style, his music--he was definitely a legend. Now, I must admit I have borrowed his style when it comes to round glasses--I wear a pair of round glasses every day, and they are not to be confused with Harry Potter. Today, I would like to share with you my Top 5 Favorite John Lennon Songs.

    "How Do You Sleep?"

Thought to be originally a song bashing former Beatles bandmate Paul McCartney, Lennon later claimed that the song was actually about himself. Making an appearance on the track playing guitar is former bandmate George Harrison. Whether it's about Paul or whether it's actually about John himself, it's still a great song.

"Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)"

"Instant Karma's gonna get ya!'" Coming in at number four on the list is Instant Karma! An interesting fact about this song, which I didn't know until I did some more research, according to Wikipedia, "it ranks as one of the fastest-released songs in pop music history, recorded at London's Abbey Road Studios the same day it was written, and arriving in stores only ten days later. Lennon remarked to the press, he "wrote it for breakfast, recorded it for lunch, and we're putting it out for dinner."[1]

    "Power to the People"

Back from 1971, here's the very political Power to the People. Not only does the song have a catchy beat, it's easy to sing along to.

    "Come Together (Live)"

Originally heard on the Beatle's 1969 "Abby Road" album, this version of Come Together is live from New York City in 1972. This live version of the song is on Lennon's "Live in New York City" album. And, according to Wikipedia, ""Come Together" was the only Beatles' tune Lennon sang during his 1972 Madison Square Garden concert."

    "Give Peace a Chance"

Probably John Lennon's quintessential solo song (next to Imagine), here it is at the number one spot. Give Peace a Chance has a message I live by. From Wikipedia, "It is the first solo single issued by Lennon, and became an anthem of the American anti-war movement during the 1970s." Great message, great beat, easy to sing--it's an all around amazing song.
