Who Is Danny Healy-Rae? Only The Kerry County Councillor Whose Drunk Driving Permit Motion PASSED In Ireland

That’s right, while the rest of the world is fighting to get drunk drivers off the road, Danny Healy-Rae of the Kerry County Council is encouraging them to commute while intoxicated. Get a load of his logic…
“A lot of these people are living in isolated rural areas where there’s no public transport of any kind, and they end up at home looking at the four walls, night in and night out, because they don’t want to take the risk of losing their licence,” Healy-Rae told TheJournal.ie.”
Healy-Rae goes on to say that citizens driving drunk in rural areas have never killed anyone (how does he know that?) and that these permits would help keep many residents from falling into depression. Yeah, he just said that!! Um, last I checked alcohol CONTRIBUTES to depression rather than squashing it! So, lemme get this straight, if you live in the boonies, the rules should be bent for you on account that the roads aren’t traveled as much??

Wow. I’m speechless. And the legislation actually went through on a 5-3 majority vote between the council members! Before this, it was illegal for residents of Ireland to drink even a full pint and then drive, but now they can consume 2-3 pints and still get behind the wheel. Well, good luck keeping those rural areas unpopulated now… The massive influx of people looking for a literal license to drink will turn those rolling green hills into a sprawling metropolis of winos. This has to take the cake as one of the worst ideas in the history of bad ideas. Now we’ll have to designate roads as drinking or non-drinking ones. Brilliant.
