What Causes Sinkholes To Randomly Open Up?- What Areas In The Country Are Most Susceptible To Sinkholes?

On Thursday night (2/28), a sinkhole randomly opened up under a one-story house in Florida. This sinkhole swallowed more than half the house, and tragically killed one person. So what causes sinkholes to randomly appear? What areas in the country have the most sinkholes? We have those answers here:
What Causes Sinkholes?
1) Sinkholes are most likely to happen in areas where the Earth is a layer of clay on top of limestone. Limestone has a lot of pockets that aren’t “structurally sound”. When Limestone starts eroding, it crumbles fast causing sinkholes.
2) Another cause of sinkholes is a lack of water. During droughts, the aquifer layer can get weak, crumble, and cause a sinkhole to open up.
How To Watch Out For Sinkholes
Watch out for things like sagging trees or fences, or water starting to pool in strange places.
