Weather researcher, storm chaser and tornado aficionado Tim Samaras was killed on Friday along with his young adult son Paul and another colleague when a storm they were chasing turned on them. We stumbled across the last phone call communication Tim made while being interviewed on an Oklahoma TV news program about the storm that eventually took his life hours later. Listen here:

 

 

And lest we think that he was out there for thrills and putting himself and those under his care in needless danger, a colleague had this to say about him...

“There’s just no one safer than Tim. Tim, he would never put himself in danger. He certainly wouldn’t put his son in danger.” Myers added, “I just want people to know that Tim was a scientist. He was out there to put probes out there. He was out there to learn and understand and to make science more understandable. … We all go out there and we try to protect the public, but Tim was even one step higher.”
