Wade Boggs Plans To Develop The Famous Dyersville Iowa Property From ‘Field Of Dreams’ Into ‘All-Star Ballpark Heaven’

If you owned that iconic baseball field, how much would you let it go for? Me, I wouldn't let it go for anything! After all, have we not learned the chief lesson of the movie? Well, Don and Becky Lansing let it go for a cool 3.4 million to a group of people, one of which was Hall-of-Famer Wade Boggs who has plans to develop it as a sprawling baseball camp for youth. If he builds it, will they come?

The 193 acre purchase will ultimately result in the erection of All-Star Ballpark Heaven, a youth baseball and softball complex that will eventually feature 24 fields. Phase 1 of the project is to include the completion of 12 of the fields, along with 60 team clubhouses, and is expected to be completed in 2014 in time for the tourney season.

Wade even mentioned our own Cooperstown saying they have people going in and out of there like a car wash and no reason they couldn't do the same in Iowa! Sounds suspiciously like a rip-off of James Earl Jones's speech in the movie, but I guess there's room for another baseball car wash in the nation and I can't think of a better place for it. I really like the idea of the property being used for inspiring baseball's young up-and-coming but will miss the opportunity of being able to go out there and daydream and still see the cornfields on the rim of the outfield and step over that gravel that separated the supernatural from the tangible. Hopefully they'll at least keep that rural skyline. It was difficult to pick a single clip of this movie because the whole film is so good! But here's one to reminisce on!
