After mustering just two goals combined in their last three games, the New York Rangers scored five times in Game 5 Friday, staving-off elimination for at least one more game with a 5-1 win over the Penguins in Pittsburgh.

It was an emotional upswing for the Rangers, who saw teammate Martin St. Louis lose his mother unexpectedly this week. He attended her funeral Thursday then rejoined the team on Friday.

Chris Kreider, who had missed the entire postseason until his return in Wednesday’s 4-2 loss at Madison Square Garden, snapped the Rangers’ ridiculous power play drought that had lasted 9 full playoff games.  He also tallied an assist.

Derek Brassard scored twice for New York and had an assist.

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 25 of 26 of the Pen’s shots. Pittsburgh goalie Marc Andre Fleury stopped 22 of 24.
