Top Political Conspiracy Theories Of The Past 100 Years

According to a new study out of Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, 63% of Americans said they believe in at least one political conspiracy theory. That's nearly two-thirds! Two thirds of people are believing that our government has secrets to hide. What are they hiding? Here's what could be the top political conspiracy theories of all time, and they all happened in the past 100 years:

Roswell UFO Crash

The Roswell UFO incident claims that a UFO crashed near Roswell, New Mexico, in June or July 1947. Since the late 1970s, this crash has been the subject of controversy and several conspiracy theories as to the true nature of the object that crashed. The United States Armed Forces maintains that what was recovered was debris from a weather balloon, but many UFO proponents maintain that an alien craft was found and its occupants were captured. Many believe that the military covered up the whole thing.

The Assassination Of John F. Kennedy In 1963

President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on Friday November 22, 1963. Within two hours, Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for the murder of Dallas policeman J.D. Tippit and arraigned that evening. On Sunday, November 24th , nightclub owner Jack Ruby shot and killed Oswald as he was being transferred to the county jail. Immediately after the shooting, many people suspected that the assassination was part of a larger plot. Mysterious or suspicious deaths of witnesses connected with the Kennedy assassination throughout the years to follow that led many to believe the government had a hand in the shootings.

The Apollo 11 Moon Landing In 1969

The Moon landing conspiracy theories claim that the Apollo program faked the moon landings so NASA would win the Space Race in the 1960's . Polls taken in various locations have shown that between 6% and 20% of Americans surveyed believe that the manned landings were faked, rising to 28% in Russia. Since the late 2000s, high-definition photos of the Apollo landing sites have captured the lander modules and the tracks left by the astronauts. Even in 2012, images were released showing the Apollo flags still standing on the Moon. Still people will argue that the landings never happened.

September 11th 2001 Attacks

September 11th, 2001, was a day that most Americans will never forget. However, many Americans don't believe in the events that unfolded that day. One conspiracy theory is that the collapse of the Twin Towers and 7 World Trade Center were the result of a controlled demolition rather than structural failure due to impact and fire. Another belief is that the Pentagon was hit by a missile launched by the U.S. Government. Other conspiracy theories revolve around authorities having advance knowledge of the attacks and deliberately ignoring or helping to assist the attackers.

Barack Obama Citizenship Conspiracy Theories

Conspiracy theories about the citizenship of Barack Obama claim that Barack Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and under Article Two of the U.S. Constitution, is ineligible to be President of the United States. Some of these theories say that Obama's published birth certificate is fake and that his actual birthplace is not Hawaii but Kenya. Other theories allege that Obama became a citizen of Indonesia in childhood, thereby losing his U.S. Citizenship.

Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting Conspiracy Theories

The official accounts of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting have started to cause a ton of conspiracy theories. Some of these conspiracy theories question the circumstances of the shooting with Adam Lanza, the media reports that included inconsistencies about the identity of the shooter, wrong photos, incorrect location of victims, weapons used and other misinformation as evidence for their claims.
