First you will want to choose one that sits straight up, showing no sighn of skin damage.

Then you'll want to make sure it has a long sturdy stem. Avoid pumpkins that have dry stems; that usally means that they have been picked for a while and will deteriorate sooner.

Once they are picked, uncarved pumpkins will last into December, if carved, they should last up to a month.
