I know it may feel like a drudgery, but every year at this time, we file our federal and state income tax returns. Whether you have an accountant or do it yourself, it's still a chore finding all those bank statements and receipts. So here's a brief review of deadlines for filing your personal income.

Here is some helpful information about filing your personal income tax. According to usa.gov:

"File Your Taxes

Over 100 million people filed their taxes electronically last year. Electronic filing (e-file) makes filing your taxes easier, reduces the risk of error, and you’ll receive your refund faster. The IRS can help you find an authorized e-file provider in your area.

You can also file your federal tax return by mail. You can print forms and publications from the IRS website or find them at your local library.

Deadline to File and Requesting an Extension

April 15, 2014 is the due date for filing your federal individual income tax return for the 2013 calendar year. For other deadlines, review Publication 509 Tax Calendar.

If you cannot file by the deadline, you need to request an extension."

And, for your New York State Income Tax, here's more from tax.ny.gov:

"Filing due dates

Filing due dates for your 2013 personal income tax return

Income tax return April 15, 2014

Request for extension of time to file April 15, 2014

Note that special filing deadlines apply in certain instances."
