Given all the world-shattering 'Star Wars' upheaval over the last year -- between Disney's purchase of the franchise, plans for future films, and the dissolution of 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' in favor of 'Star Wars Rebels' -- one item that seems to have been lost in the shuffle is that of the long-gestating live-action TV series. Recently, however, ABC president Paul Lee offered an update on the prospect that puts a glint in our eyes the series might someday get off the ground.

Word comes from IGN that Lee has no (or at least could speak of no) imminent plans to dust off the live-action TV series, which purportedly had at least 50 scripts written for it, but that he'd at least given the idea plenty of thought and discussion. “I certainly have a glint in my eye. They [Disney/Lucasfilm] have a lot on their plate when you look at the features that they’re planning on rolling out for the next few years, but we’ve started conversations with them.”

Not only that, but Disney's wealth of franchises, from Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' to the fairy tale character appearing on 'Once Upon A Time,' might make for an effective complement with 'Star Wars,' serving up another recognizable sandbox for ABC to play in the future. "It would be nice to use other strong Disney IP besides 'Once Upon a Time in Wonderland' and besides 'S.H.I.E.L.D.,'" said Lee. "I would love to go there. I’m a particularly fan of Lucasfilm. It’s an amazing world."

Back in 2012, producer Rick McCallum previewed a different set of reasons why 'Star Wars: Underworld' would have difficulty making it to TV, whether or not (likely not) Disney had any intention of following through with the work already done:

Our biggest problem is that these stories are adult. I mean…these are like ‘Deadwood’ in space. It so unlike anything you’ve ever associated with George before in relation to ‘Star Wars.’ These aren’t for kids. I mean, we hope they’ll watch, but it’s not being targeted at 8-to-9 year old boys.

The situation we have is that each episode – or if you put two hour long episodes together – is bigger than any film we’ve ever done.  It’s on the ‘Avatar‘ level and we’ll only have about $5-6 million we can spend on each episode.

Well, what say you? Do you think we'll see live-action 'Star Wars' on TV in the future, given Disney's ownership of the franchise? How would you like to see a 'Star Wars' TV series navigate with the new films?
