Initial Details:

A stand-off is underway in Oneida Castle.  What is believed to have begun as a domestic dispute at around one o'clock this morning has resulted in the evacuation of residents in the Seventh Street area of Oneida Castle.

The suspect, who Oneida County Sheriffs believe is armed with a long gun, is inside the home.  He is eighty-one years old.  His wife called 911 to report the incident and was then able to leave the home.

Authorities are not releasing details about whether any shots were fired.  They say they want to make certain that no one is hurt and are prepared to wait as negotiations with the man inside the home progress.

Authorities says they are hoping for a peaceful resolution.  No one other than the suspect is believed to be in the home.

To avoid any potential danger to the public Route 365 (State Street) in Oneida Castle has been shut down to all but local traffic.

Oneida County Sheriffs are being assisted at the scene by the New York State Police.
