Something All Food Labels Should Have
If you’re someone who has a special dietary need, you know how difficult it is finding the right food. There’s gluten free, vegan, dairy free, low sodium, low fat, soy free and wheat free–to name a few. I’m vegan. That means I don’t eat meat, dairy products, eggs or fish. So, when I go to the grocery store, I look at almost every food label for the ingredients before I buy it. Anyone with a special diet knows just how frustrating that can be. However, there are a few food companies that are making it easier.
Not only are some companies putting clear, easy-to-find, easy-to-read dietary labels on their food packaging, some grocery stores are labeling their store-brand food. Two places I know that do this are Trader Joe’s and Wegmans. Yes, Wegmans does it again. If you follow my blogs, you know how much I love Wegmans. They make life so much easier for those with special diets. If you are in a hurry, it’s easy to look at the front label of most Wegmans-brand foods and know if it will fit your dietary lifestyle. There’s an example of a burrito from Wegmans with clear labeling above.
Various companies are doing the same thing. There are some examples of easy-to-read labels below. This is something I feel strongly about, and I feel that all food companies should be doing this. All it takes is a little extra packaging design to add these dietary food labels. In my opinion, when a company puts these little labels on its food packaging, it makes it seem like the company actually cares about the consumer. It makes it look like the company knows that there are people out there who have food allergies or can’t eat a specific type of food. It makes a company look like they are more aware of things.
