BASE jumper Gary Connery of England has become the first man to skydive and land safely (this was required to claim the record) without deploying a parachute. How did he manage to pull that off? Well, the professional stuntman glided himself into a pile of cardboard boxes. 18,600 of them.

The 42-year-old dove off a helicopter at 2,400ft wearing a specially made “wing suit” and swooped towards the 350ft long “runway” made of cardboard boxes set up on the ground. It only took a matter of seconds for Connery to hit the cardboard boxes to the sound of his friends and family cheering him on from the ground. And although the video below doesn’t show it, Conery walked out of it alive and well.

The daredevil does have a “Bond” connection beyond his last name being Connery. Apart from performing stunts in films such as ‘Batman Begins’ and ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,’ Connery appeared in the Pierce Brosnan James Bond outing ‘Die Another Day.’ And with stunts like this, he lives to fly another day.
