A former San Francisco Giants payroll manager has been arrested on suspicion of embezzling more than $1.5 million from the team over the past year.

Robin O’Connor, 41, has been charged with wire fraud and fraud in connection with a computer.

O’Connor is accused of rerouting a total of $1,513,836.28 to her personal accounts without authorization, and then forging a letter to the bank seeking a loan to buy a home in San Diego. Once confronted, O’Connor reportedly returned the money. Her base salary as a Giants employee was $80,000.

You have to wonder how someone would ever expect to get away with a crime like this when so much money is at stake. Even still, this doesn’t explain why the team has struggled so much of late on the field.

O’Connor is due back in court Sept. 30.
