It’s that time of year again.  We all head outside, spark up the grill to enjoy one of America’s favorite pastimes…The BBQ.  Now, I think most people have a pretty good grasp on how they like to prepare their favorite BBQ, and it’s important to know your grill as well as you know your wife and kids, right?  You would think that is a given, but every year there are countless reports of misuse of grills and outdoor cooking equipment.

Some helpful tips:
  1. Know your equipment – being unfamiliar with your equipment can lead to an unsafe environment.  Always read carefully the instruction included with your grill.
  2. Keep kids at a safe distance from the cooking area.  Yes kids are curious, but it’s important to keep them away from burning charcoal or hot-to-the-touch grills.
  3. Cook your meat to a safe temperature, below I have listed the safe temps in which to cook meat.  I took these from the USDA website and www.foodsafety.gov
  4. Most importantly, have fun, but do it safely.  It’s ok to enjoy a few adult beverages, but too many, of course, can impair your judgment.  Enjoy responsibility so you can enjoy many more cookouts in the future.
