While the Olympians fight it out to win their gold, silver and bronze, the entertainment world is placing bets on what world famous artists might be featured in the closing ceremony on Sunday (Aug. 12).

Music director David Arnold told the London Telegraph that it “should be the greatest after-party in the world. The opening ceremony featured Paul McCartney performing ‘Hey Jude.’ If all the rumored participants show up, he just might be right about that. Names like the Rolling Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd, the Who and Elton John have all been thrown about, but since it’s all being kept secret, the real lineup won’t be discovered until Sunday evening.

Some bands have already come forth to deny their participation. Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason will reportedly make an appearance to perform ‘Wish You Were Here’ with Sheeran, but the band has stated they will not appear together at the event. Mick Jagger has also gone on record to say that while the Rolling Stones are gearing up for a tour, they aren’t quite ready for the 2012 Olympics.

So that leaves the possibility of English rock superstars such as the Who, Elton John, and Queen still on the table. None of the aforementioned artists have said they’re not performing, so they may be among the over 20 musicians slated to perform in what is being described as a “beautiful, cheeky, cheesy, camp, silly and thrilling” show. Really, would you expect anything less? Tune in Sunday evening to find out who made the super-secret all-star lineup.
