The health care law of 2010 was the signature legislation of Barack Obama’s first term as President. However, according to a new poll from Gallup, the public is still very divided on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The survey of 1,040 adults asked, if a Republican is elected President in November, would you favor or oppose him repealing the 2010 health care law when he took office? Forty-seven percent of the poll’s respondents did favor a repeal, while 44 percent would want him to keep the law.

Eight-seven percent of Republicans surveyed favored getting ride of the law, whereas 77 percent of Democrats believe it should remain intact. Independents were slightly more likely to oppose appeal than to favor it.
