This is only the second time this has happened in the last 40 years (1996 was the last time) and I guess once you let the 'roids in, they poison your career long after your body's clean of them and the likes of Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Sammy Sosa are finding that out the hard way.

For all of you statistics junkies out there, apparently you need 75% of the vote from the Baseball Writers Association Of America and the men listed above didn't even get half that percentage. Craig Biggio came the closest at 68.2% and Mark McGwire, who has been on the ballot for the past seven years and he rolled in at just shy of 17% of the vote. Kevin Costner will likely make a good movie long before Mark and his steroid toting peers make it in. It sucks too, because these guys were excellent players without the lift and it's likely they would've been eligible for the Hall of Fame anyway were it not for those boneheaded decisions.

So, what's the good news? Each player has 14 years to wrack up enough votes to make it to Cooperstown, so we'll see what happens next year. Goes to show you though that once again these people we place on pedestals are just as human as you and I are.
