New Vegetarian Meat Tastes Like Real Meat- Introducing Beyond Meat

One of my biggest pet peeves is people who claim diet soda tastes like the real deal. Clearly that is false. The only diet soda that can even come close to the real deal has been Dr. Pepper 10. So this next story be a little skeptical because I am. A chef in Pennsylvania believes he has created a vegetarian meat that supposedly tastes like the real deal. This meat is called Beyond Meat.
David Silver put together a vegetarian food product called Beyond Meat, made of soy protein, pea protein and carrot fiber. Supposedly this meat has fooled a New York Times columnist into thinking it was actual meat. Beyond Meat has been called “the game changer” in vegan and vegetarian diets.
So what gives Beyond Meat its edge?
The careful way the components are mixed, heated, cooled and shaped in a form that has much of the flavor and texture of meat – a process licensed from the University of Missouri by Ethan Brown.
“People always say, ‘Why are you imitating meat?’ ” Brown remarked by phone. ” ‘I thought you’d want nothing to do with meat.’ But I say, why throw out all those hundreds of years of culinary development? The key is to take the animal protein out and provide the same nutritional benefits without the downsides.”
I’m still skeptical. I don’t think you can replace the taste of meat with soy.
