With reality talent competitions on TV becoming as much about the judges as the actual competitors, it’s no surprise that Funny or Die jumped on the topic to offer up their take on it. In their new clip dubbed ‘U B Da Judge,’ celebrities vie for their chance to sit in the judging chair on the new reality competition, in essence, judging the judge.

According to the esteemed, and we use the term loosely, panel critiquing the auditions, all reality competition shows need the right mix of judging talent which includes, “the mean one, the pushover or the Randy Jackson.” In an effort to find their perfect trio, they open the floodgates and interview potential candidates. Oh and it should be noted that one of the judging judges bears the moniker the Honorable Heathcliff Rogerwaters – nice little shout out.

Among the front-runners up for the position and showing off their senses of humor in the clip are the legendary Meat Loaf, Perry Farrell from Jane’s Addiction and System of a Down’s Serj Tankian. Those are among the rock contingent, mixed in with YouTube sensation Rebecca Black and ’80s pop star Debbie Gibson among others.

Perry Farrell’s audition pokes a bit of fun at Aerosmith frontman and American Idol judge Steven Tyler, as Farrell says, “You always need the rocker. I don’t see why I couldn’t do what Steven Tyler‘s doing.” He then breaks into his best Tyleresque scat impression before shouting ‘I like it!”

During Meat Loaf’s audition, the classic rocker is tasked with providing a dramatic chair turn for the judges ala ‘The Voice.’ He obliges, even giving them a little fake out action before being kicked out by the judge we’ll call John McEnroe Jr.

In the end, it’s up to the audience to choose, “Who’s going to win that gold subpoena?”
