Over the years, on Super Sunday in the Greg McShea household, we usually hold our breath and sometimes cringe when performers sing the national anthem before the start of the big game. Why some feel they have to improvise, modulate the notes on the ending for 45 seconds, or make up their own words, I haven't got a clue. This year, opera singer Renee Fleming will sing "The Star Spangled Banner" to open Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday, February 2nd (sounds like a safe bet to me).
