It’s the second time he’s been accused of using pine tar this season. But, this time Boston caught before it was gone, pointing it out to the umpire and ultimately leading to Michael Pineda’s ejection from Wednesday’s Yankees – Red Sox game at Fenway Park.

Pineda had a smear of pine tar on his neck, just two weeks after cameras showed he had a dark gooey looking substance on his pitching hand in his first meeting with the Sox. Pineda said it was just dirt the first time, but after Wednesday’s ejection he admitted it was pine tar saying his hands were numb from the cold air and he was trying to get a grip.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman used the work embarrassed several times after the game and it is expected Pineda will have to serve a 10 game suspension.

Boston went on to a 5-1 win.
