‘Metallica Through the Never’ 3-D Movie Release Date Announced

Amongst the new ventures Metallica has planned for 2013 is a feature film called 'Metallica Through the Never.' The band announced today that they've teamed up with Picturehouse, a independent film marketing and distribution company to get the movie to theaters this summer.

The 3D movie isn't just another live set either. It stars actor Dane DeHaan who plays a crew member sent out on a urgent mission during a show. He "unexpectedly finds his word turned upside down." Aug. 9 is the scheduled release date for the film, which was written and directed by Nimrod Antal ('Predators').

"Like your friends in 'Tallica, Picturehouse is truly independent, take big chances and often think outside of the box," a statement at the band's website reads. Picturehouse founder Bob Berney was behind two of the most famous independent movies of all time, 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' and 'The Passion of the Christ.'

"Putting this movie together for the last couple of years has been a pretty wild ride, and we've definitely done our share of flying without a net," Lars Ulrich says. 'Metallica Through the Never' is the first of three movies Picturehouse expects to put out in 2013. In November 2012 Metallica became an independent band when their recording contract ended giving them the rights to all of their best-known songs. The immediately formed Blackened Recordings, a label to release whatever suits them.
