Memorial Day – We Remember Those Who Gave Their Lives For Our Freedom

Today is Memorial Day, when most of us have a day off, plan backyard barbecues and picnics and family get togethers. But, Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember those in the military who gave their lives for our freedom. A few years ago, my wife and I visited Arlington National Cemetery, and it was a very moving experience.

"Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the men and women who died while serving in the country's armed forces. The holiday, which is celebrated every year on the last Monday of May, was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service.

Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died in military service. Many volunteers place an American flag on each grave in national cemeteries."

Today, we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country to preserve our freedom. We thank all who have served and who are currently serving our country in the military throughout the world.
