David Shiroff was born and raised in the Philadelphia suburb of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. In 1990, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting at Old Dominion University, and then attended the University of Miami School of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate and became a member of the Florida Bar in 1993. Following a brief legal career, Shiroff went to work for one of his clients in 1995 and became a senior-level executive for one of the nation’s largest mattress specialty retailers.

In 2000, Shiroff acquired the Syracuse based bedding specialty chain Metro Mattress. At the time of acquisition, the company was in significant decline and consisted of just nine stores located in Central New York and Rochester. Following a comprehensive restructuring of the company Metro Mattress began expanding the business in 2002. It now operates 48-stores, and has plans to reach 50 stores b ymid-2014. Metro Mattress has grown within its original two markets and in recent years has expanded into new cities such as Buffalo, Albany and Binghamton.

Along with corporate expansion has come philanthropic growth as well. Some of the organizations benefiting from Shiroff’s philanthropy are the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation, Make-A-Wish, Say Yes to Education and the Boys and Girls Club of Syracuse just to name a few. Shiroff’s most ambitious philanthropic endeavor to date is entitled “50 Beds in 50 Days”. Each year, 50 beds are donated per Quarter to non-profit organizations in each of the four regions in which Metro Mattress operates, for a total of 200 beds annually. The program is completing its4th full year, and the results so far have been incredible.
