The marital bed, once considered a symbol of holy matrimony, is on its way out. The National Sleep Foundation says nearly 25% of married couples in the United States now sleep in separate beds. They aren't the only organization noticing the change. The National Association of Home Builders claims that separate sleeping arrangements are so popular in America that it expects 60% of custom homes to have dual master bedrooms by 2015. 60%! When most couples that sleep apart are asked to explain why they don't share the same bed, most respond they love their partner however they also love a good night's sleep and having their own space is an added benefit.

I will confess that my wife and I often sleep apart. Why? Not for any of the reasons listed above. I have to get up at 4am to get to work on time. My wife is a night owl. She will sometimes go to bed around 4am. So in order to make sure I get a good night sleep I will often take the spare bedroom. Plus my snoring won't keep my wife from falling asleep or wake her up when she does come to bed!

What do you do? Do you and your partner sleep in separate rooms?
