Mark Sanchez's shoulder injury is apparently much more serious than first thought.

ESPN.com is reporting Sanchez has been diagnosed with labral tear in his throwing shoulder - an injury he suffered late in the team's third pre-season game against the Giants - and is 'likely to have surgery' that would end his season.

Rookie quarterback Geno Smith sparked the Jets' comeback win in Week 1 and ended the game 24-38 with 256 yards in the air, a touchdown and an interception.

He'll be under center tonight when Gang Green visits the Pats in New England.
