Leaked Witcher 3 Documents Reveal Story Details, Endings

An employee CD Projekt Red, developer of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has had his Google Drive hacked, resulting in the leak of dozens of internal documents about the game’s campaign, including information about the ending.

CD Projekt Red has confirmed to Eurogamer that the documents, posted on 4chan and Reddit by an unknown party, are legitimate. Included in the documents are story details, including a file that lays out different endings players can experience, based on choices made during the game. A bestiary that includes creatures from the game (and some that didn’t make the cut) was found, along with a selection of production art and animation details.

One particularly candid and mildly distasteful detail was gleaned from a document describing the E3 2014 demo. The memo describes the opening shot of the demo, then moves on to the first in-game conversation, where the following text was found; "We talk to Keira Metz and she gives us a task: remove the curse from the tower in the swamps. (Boob physics eye candy, appropriately prepared dialogue)."

According to the documents, The Witcher 3: Witch Hunt was in a near-complete state back in February, with a buggy, but fully-playable campaign. Interestingly, one file states that SmartGlass and Kinect are “not supported yet,” leaving it up in the air whether The Witcher 3 will utilize either of the Xbox technologies.

Though CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the documents are real, they caution gamers against reading them, stating, "A portion of the files contains information about the story of the game so we strongly advise against accessing them, as this may heavily impact and spoil your future gaming experience. “ They also reassured gamers that the leak does not indicate any problem with the game’s development; "We also like to reassure everyone that the disclosure of said documents does not affect the development cycle in any way."
