I clicked a YouTube video thinking that I was gonna see a cover of Stevie Wonder's 'I Wish' played fairly similar to the recording, but I was in for a surprise. I'm scratching my head as to why I've never heard of Jarrod Lawson before because with such soul and fresh delivery like that, it's a wonder to me that he's largely flying under the radar. Well, maybe not, considering that jazz has found itself as somewhat of a niche form now, but did I say FRESH? Watch this!

I've gotten so sick of hearing people cover this tune exactly like it is on the record, SO, I've come up with a funky latin-infused groove which bears no resemblance of the original whatsoever. A wise man once told me, "If your rendition of a cover tune isn't better, OR, just completely different than the original, what's the point?"

And here's another of his tasty covers... 'Cruisin Together' (Smokey Robinson)

Kinda makes me want to revamp my entire cover catalog nowAnd more from Jarrod playing in the style of his influences, none other than Oscar Peterson and Errol Garner (pictured above... sorta.)
