New Hartford, NY (WIBX) - Hundreds turned out for Alexandra Kogut's funeral service at St. John The Evangelist Church in New Hartford. The 18-year-old SUNY Brockport freshman was brutally murdered in her dorm room last Saturday, allegedly by the hands of her boyfriend, 21-year-old Clayton Whittemore, a student at Utica College. Both grew up in New Hartford.

Kogut's piano teacher, Balina Gnap, says she came to honor the good memories shared with Alexandra.

Kogut's body was found around 3:00 in the morning by police, after her mom--a Nurse at Hugh Jones Elementary in Utica--grew concerned after not hearing from her. Whittemore was arrested at a Thruway rest stop near Syracuse about an hour after Kogut's body was discovered. The cause of death was ruled blunt force trauma.

Peggy Brady says she taught Kogut CPR in High School and even knew of her alleged killer, Whittemore.  She says Whittemore didn't have the best reputation growing up.

The only brush with the law, police say Whittemore has on his record, is a January 2011 arrest for disorderly conduct and public intoxication in Florida. Officials are not saying if a weapon was used to kill Kogut. In the meantime, Whittemore is being held without bail in Monroe County Jail. He's charged with 2nd Degree Murder.
