Meet Hannibal Lecter's uncle...David Bowie?

The creator of the NBC drama Hannibal, Bryan Fuller, tells E! News that the show "has reached out to David Bowie to see if he's interested and available."

The rock legend has yet to respond to the offer, according to Fuller.

In the Hannibal Lecter mythology, the uncle, Count Robert Lecter, helped raise the killer as a teen before his sudden death.  Fuller says that the uncle can be resurrected through "alternate universe storytelling."

It's been a while since Bowie has lent his acting skills to the TV world.  He played himself in a 2006 episode of the Ricky Gervais comedy Extras, and he voiced a character on SpongeBob SquarePants the following year.  Of course, David also has had roles in many films over the years, including The Man Who Fell to Earth, The Hunger, Labyrinth, The Last Temptation of Christ and The Prestige.
