If you're a craft beer lover, you know that this week's "Great American Beer Festival" is the "Holy Grail" of beer competitions. In fact, "Saranac Adirondack Lager" got a huge kick-start years ago for the F.X. Matt Brewery wining a gold medal. Since then, several Saranac beers have captured numerous awards at the festival.

Here's more about the "Great American Beer Festival", according to great americanbeerfestival.com:

"The Great American Beer Festival is the premier U.S. beer festival and competition.

Each year, GABF represents the largest collection of U.S. beer ever served, in a public tasting event plus a private competition. GABF brings together the brewers and diverse beers that make the U.S. the world’s greatest brewing nation.

The Great American Beer Festival invites industry professionals from around the world to sit together in small groups and, without knowing the brand name, taste beers in each specified style category. The ultimate goal of the Great American Beer Festival Judge Panel is to identify the three beers that best represent each beer-style category as described and adopted by the Great American Beer Festival.

The Professional Judge Panel awards gold, silver or bronze medals that are recognized around the world as symbols of brewing excellence.

The Great American Beer Festival takes place at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver October 2 - 4, 2014."

Hundreds of breweries are participating in this year's "Great American Beer Festival" including some New York brewers that you know: Brewery Ommegang, Brooklyn Brewery, Saranac and more!
