Uh Oh. Google’s Been Using Your Name And Face In Ads Without Your Consent

Recently it came to our attention that Google has been keeping track of every single web search that we’ve ever done since we started our Gmail accounts (which you can disable here), which they said was designed to ‘personalize’ our experience. Well, since November 13th of last year Google also snuck in something else. They’ve been using your face and name in sponsored ads and you probably didn’t even know it.

Facebook tried this some time ago, got sued and LOST. This time your search engine giant whose name has become synonymous with internet searching itself (Google that one, lol) did it a little more above board by at least communicating their intent. But like myself, maybe you missed that little announcement. The box in your Google+ settings to allow this is checked by default (yeah, if this was totally above board we’d have been given the option to opt IN not out) so for more info and to how to opt out in just two clicks, hit the button below and you’re on your way! Interesting that when you’re there Google gives photographic examples of this that are essentially public reviews which I would think most anyone would consent to. However the description which you will read seems to say a little more than that…

Our society is headed in a direction where internet is creeping into everything OTHER than computers. It’s everywhere and it won’t be long before every product we use will be ‘internetized’. Your phones, TV’s and many new cars are already and it’s starting to creep into your homes by way of security systems and temperature control just to name a few. Imagine a refrigerator that knows when you’re out of a certain product, orders it for you and has it shipped so you don’t have to go shopping! Obviously that’s a HUGE convenience but as always, that convenience comes at a price that might be more costly to you than a lighter wallet. Are you willing to pay it?
