If you remember "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" on NBC-TV, that groundbreaking comedy from the1960s and 70s (and in reruns), then you remember Gary Owens. He was the announcer who cupped his hand by his ear and read silly announcements into the microphone. Gary Owens is also an L.A. radio personality and one of my favorites. On this day in 1981, was awarded a star on the "Hollywood Walk Of Fame".

The thing I found hilarious about Gary Owens was that he would say absolutely absurd things into that Laugh-In microphone, but play it straight with that deep baritone serious radio announcer voice. That's what made it so funny. Watch and see for yourself.
