On July 17, Governor Cuomo created the Mohawk Valley and Upstate Flood Recovery program. The program is designed to assist homeowners, renters, business owners and farmers impacted by the recent flooding. The program is administered by the New York State Homes and Community Renewal in partnership with the New York State Department of Financial Services as well as other state agencies.

Homeowners, renters, business owners and farmers located in Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Montgomery and Niagara counties may be eligible for funding if they experienced flood damage that is not covered by insurance or other sources.

Homeowners and renters are eligible for up to $31,900 in assistance while farmers and business owners can qualify for up to $50,000.

Director of Housing Recovery for NYS HCR Michael Weber says the center at the New Hartford fire house consulted with more than 70 people in the first three and a half hours of being open today. Weber added that if you are not sure if you are eligible for assistance, you should at least fill out an application so that you can be in the system.

Applications can be filled out at recovery centers located at the Oneida Recreation Center, Herkimer County Community College, and the New Hartford fire house today and tomorrow(7/23) from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Applications are also available online at www.nyshcr.org/Programs/NYS-Flood.
