Aurora, CO (WIBX) – Police continue to search the home of 24-Year old James Holmes, identified as the sole shooter in this morning’s movie theatre murders.A dozen people have died and fifty others are injured.  The reports of deaths have varied throughout the morning, beginning with ten killed and then up to fifteen.  Some of the confusion is resulting from the fact that the victims are being brought to several hospitals in the Denver area.

Many of the victims are being treated for gunshot wounds.  At least two of the patients are listed in critical condition.

The victims had come out for a special midnight showing of the new “Batman” movie, “The Dark Knight” at the Century 16 movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado.  Some patrons initially thought that the gunshot sounds were coming from an adjoining theatre.

Holmes was taken into custody by police who were already at the theatre for crowd control.

The suspect is believed to have thrown a smoke bomb or dispensed a gas canister into the theatre before opening fire at about 12:30 this morning.  Earlier reports of another possible gunman have not been confirmed and are believed to be unfounded at this time.

One witness described the shooter as wearing all black clothing, equipped with a gas mask and a bulletproof vest.  He had at least one rifle and one handgun on him.  Police are searching the suspect’s apartment complex for explosives.  The building has been evacuated and police have closed off a 3-block radius around the apartment building after Holmes mentioned that he had explosives in the apartment.  A gas mask and other firearms were found in his car.

The theatre is located at 14300 Alameda Avenue in Aurora, Colorado.  Additional police responded to multiple 911 calls within minutes.  The gunman is said to have entered the theatre through an emergency exit for Theatre 9 of the complex.
