Additional Information

Slocum-Dickson Medical Group’s Endocrinology department will hold a free Diabetes Screening Day on Tuesday, April 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the main lobby of the New Hartford location at 1729 Burrstone Road. The event is free.

Medical professionals will be providing diabetes screening through the use of Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) blood tests to determine how well blood sugars are controlled over time and assess individuals’ risk for developing type 2 diabetes. This single test provides an average of a person’s blood sugar level over six to twelve weeks. A blood sample for the test is obtained through a finger prick, and results will be available within approximately six minutes.

Additional educational information on type 2 diabetes, prediabetes and body mass index will also be available at the event.

Diabetes is a serious disease that strikes nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States, and a quarter of them (7 million) do not even know they have it. An additional 79 million, or 1 in 3 American adults, have prediabetes, which puts them at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

For more information about the free Diabetes Screening Day, please contact the Slocum-Dickson Marketing Department at (315) 798-1490.
