And lo, it has come to pass that 'Doctor Who' has regenerated itself once again, placing Peter Capaldi in the role previously occupied by Matt Smith with Wednesday's 2013 Christmas special, "The Time of the Doctor." We've had our time to adjust, but relive the experience by watching Matt Smith's tearful regeneration once more, as well as a look at scenes deleted from the special!

Spoiler warnings for 'Doctor Who' fans and non-fans alike, but Matt Smith's regeneration as the 11th (technically 13th) Doctor came at the culmination of a centuries-long stay on Trenzalore protecting the town of Christmas from 'Doctor Who''s greatest foes, before the universe-displaced Time Lords granted 11 a reprieve, breathing new life (and regeneration) into the aged Time Lord. Former companion (and future 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star) Karen Gillan even made a brief return for the moment, before Smith said his final goodbyes.

You can watch the tearful goodbye again above, along with a brief deleted sequence from the episode, and a 12-minute look behind the scenes of the fateful episode. We'll have to wait until 2014 to see how Peter Capaldi fares in the role, but were you sad to see Matt Smith go? Relive "The Time of the Doctor" in the videos, and give us your reactions to the momentous occasion in the comments!
