If you're planning to get Destiny on a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 but are also looking to upgrade to a next-gen console, you don't have to worry about losing your progress.

According to Polygon, investment lead Tyson Green from Bungie announced that current-gen console owners would be able to play Destiny on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 first and then transfer their saved characters to next-gen systems. "We're interested in making sure that last gen character can move to next gen,"  Green said. "A lot of people are going to buy Destiny on PS3 or Xbox 360 and then get a PS4 for Christmas."

This way, players don't lose any of their progress and have to start over in the persistent world of Destiny. There are no details on exactly how these saved characters would be transferred and there's no word on cross-platform transfers either, meaning that it's unknown whether an Xbox 360 player will retain his or her saves if they end up getting a PlayStation 4.

"We don't have any plans to announce there right now," Green added. "Traditionally that's been restricted by the platform [holders] themselves. We'll just have to wait and see where they go with that."

Destiny will be released on Sept. 9 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
