David Mason, Trumpeter On Beatles’ Penny Lane, Dies

David Mason passed away April 29th. Mason is credited with performing the trumpet solo on the Beatles' hit "Penny Lane". Mason was offered the gig after Paul McCartney saw him performing with the New Philharmonic on the BBC. Mason didn't even know who the Beatles were. He made about $45 for the solo. Mason was 85.
