The headline “Crosby, Stills + Nash Perform Benefit Concert” is hardly newsworthy. Throughout their legendary career they’ve devoted countless hours to playing on behalf of causes that are important to them. Wednesday night (Oct. 3), they performed to raise funds and awareness in the hopes of defeating an initiative on the California ballot this year.

Opening with ‘Carry On,’ CSN delivered a hits-laden set that also included ‘For What It’s Worth,’ Stephen Stills’ anthem from his days in Buffalo Springfield, which was No. 75 on our list of the Top 100 Classic Rock Songs. Stills also sang lead on a cover of their old friend Bob Dylan‘s song ‘Girl from the North Country.’

Proposition 32 is a measure that opponents say limits the power of unions to contribute to political campaigns while creating loopholes for corporations and SuperPACs to continue to donate without limits.

Opening the show was Tom Morello, the guitarist from Rage Against the Machine, who played his own politically charged material as well as a cover of Bruce Springsteen‘s ‘The Ghost of Tom Joad.’ Morello, who called Springsteen “the only Boss worth listening to,” performed the song with the E Street Band during both nights of Springsteen’s stand at Wrigley Field last month.
