Free emergency preparedness training is being offered to Mohawk Valley residents this weekend.

Governor Andrew Cuomo and Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente are offering the program “… to provide citizens with the tools and resources to prepare for emergencies and disasters, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions.”

By providing residents the tools to respond to emergencies officials say they can better serve the public and reduce the impact of natural and man-made disasters.  Ideally, authorities say, citizens should be prepared to be able to make survive from seven to ten days on their own in the event of a disaster.

Registration for NY-ALERT and an explanation of notifications from the Emergency Broadcast System will also be discussed.

The event will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 12:30pm at SUNYIT’s Student Center Multipurpose Room located at:

SUNYIT      -        5701 Horatio Street     –      Utica, New York  13502

To register visit: http://www.prepare.ny.gov.  Although registration is free, participation is open to all on a first-come, first-served basis.  Each family attending will be eligible to receive one free preparedness kit while supplies last.
