Fire Breaks Out After Cheap Trick Concert

“I want you … to put out this fire!”

Cheap Trick, had they still been on stage, might have changed the lyrics to one of their best known songs when a subwoofer burst into flames on Friday night in Pennsylvania. Luckily, however, fans were already exiting after their concert as the blaze erupted at the American Music Theatre in East Lampeter Township.

Employees leapt to the rescue, putting out the fire with nearby extinguishers even before first responders from the Ronks Fire Company could arrive. No one was injured.

Cheap Trick took the mishap in stride, even uploading the above photo to Twitter, which finds the local firefighters posing with Rick Nielsen‘s iconic five-neck guitar. A message on their website says the blaze “was contained to some in-house equipment. No guitars, drums, gear, band or crew were affected.”

“I Want You To Want Me,” from 1977′s ‘In Color,’ first shot to No. 1 in Japan — prompting the decision to record their now legendary ‘Cheap Trick at Budokan.’ The song also provided the title for a career-spanning exhibit at the Grammy Museum. ‘Cheap Trick: I Want You To Want Me!’ opened last September.
