This year’s NFL draft was tough for Mark Herzlich. The Boston College linebacker and 2008 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, who analysts said probably would’ve been a top 10 pick in 2009 had he not been stricken with bone cancer that year, didn’t hear his name called and went into the rookie pool of free agents who were frozen until the end of the NFL lockout.

Players and owners reached a deal Monday to end the NFL lockout and now Herzlich finally has some good news of his own — he announced on Twitter Tuesday morning that he’s been signed by the New York Giants.

The 23-year-old Herzlich still has to earn his way onto the Giants roster, and with a shortened pre-season, he doesn’t have much time to do it. But after beating cancer, it may seem like a walk in the park.
