Hard rock and comedy personality C.C. Banana, known partially for conducting humorous interviews with famous musicians while wearing a full-sized banana costume, reportedly committed suicide at his New Jersey home on Monday (May 21).

Banana, whose real name was Anthony John Confessore, was a frequent contributor to one of our favorite music sites, Metal Sludge, and also published photographs and celebrity interviews on his own website.

Reportedly, Confessore was in financial trouble as a result of his extensive investment in the tribute album ‘Whole Lotta Love — an All-Star Tribute to Fat Chicks,’ which featured covers of various rock songs dedicated to well-endowed women (‘Whole Lotta Rosie,’ ‘Fat Bottomed Girls’) by members of ’80s rock bands such as L.A. Guns and Jackyl.

Banana left a good-bye message on his Facebook page, which is also filled with heartbreaking messages from friends who tried to talk him out of his increasing depression. It reads:

Xanadu has been breached, my friends.

Cry “Havoc!” and let slip the vultures and jackals.

No more past. No more future. Both have been taken away….

If only those who knew less didn’t always think they knew better.

It took just one year of Hell to undo a lifetime of hope.

I am too lost to be found and too broken to be fixed.

Let the Monday morning quarterbacking begin.

Anthony John Confessore

PS: Kudos to my sister Valerie Swift, my niece Kristin Margetis and my nephew Gregory Confessore for orchestrating the above. Please pray for my mother Mavis, for she is now in their care.
