Bon Jovi Announce Deluxe ‘New Jersey’ Reissue

Bon Jovi, 'New Jersey'
Mercury

Bon Jovi have announced plans for a series of 30th anniversary releases in 2014, starting with a deluxe reissue of the band’s ‘New Jersey’ album.

Originally released in 1988 as the follow-up to their massively popular ‘Slippery When Wet,’ ‘New Jersey’ proved nearly as successful as its predecessor, following ‘Wet’ to the top of the Billboard album charts and spinning off five Top Ten singles: ‘Bad Medicine,’ ‘Born to Be My Baby,’ ‘I’ll Be There for You,’ ‘Lay Your Hands on Me,’ and ‘Living in Sin.’ Rolling Stone reports that “The new version of the record will appear in three iterations, a single disc reissue, a two disc deluxe edition, and two CD, or a two CD/one DVD super deluxe edition, the latter two packed with bonus material.”

Of course, as Bon Jovi fans will no doubt recall, ‘New Jersey’ has already been reissued with live performances and alternate tracks. This time around, however, the band is offering a lot more bonus content, including a full 13-track disc of demos from the early sessions for what was then being called the ‘Sons of Beaches’ record, as well as a DVD containing the documentaries ‘Access All Areas: A Rock & Roll Odyssey’ and ‘New Jersey: The Videos,’ previously released only on VHS. The deluxe edition will also come with a 32-page booklet of “insider commentary,” while the super deluxe version will pack in a 60-page softcover book. And there’s apparently more where that came from. Although they stopped short of offering details, Rolling Stone’s report adds that the band has “promised to release more 30th anniversary material this year, including new collections of studio and live recordings.” In the meantime, fans can start setting aside money for July 1, when ‘New Jersey’ is scheduled to (re-)arrive in stores.

Perhaps band frontman Jon Bon Jovi will put a portion of his part of the proceeds toward purchasing the NFL’s Buffalo Bills franchise. He’s rumored to be part of a group that’s been making an effort to buy the team, and ABC News Radio reports that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently ramped up speculation by telling reporters, “I don’t know of anyone that I have any more respect for as a father, or as a husband, or certainly as a potential business partner. And so it’s a credit to him that he’s had the career that he’s had, that he’s qualified to become an NFL owner…he’s an outstanding candidate to be an owner in the NFL, and he’s a great friend.”
