The oft-rumored, fan-requested sequel to cult hit Beyond Good and Evil is indeed in development, according to a report filed by IGN recently.

Michel Ancel, creator of Beyond Good and Evil, recently said he is leading creative development of “an extremely ambitious new title that is very close to his and the team's heart,” but Ubisoft took it a step further by confirming that it is a new game in the Beyond Good and Evil franchise.

In their statement to IGN, Ubisoft says "It's still far too early to give many details about this new title, but what we can say is that while Michel and the team at Ubisoft Montpellier are working with the core tenets of BG&E, they're developing something that aspires to push past the boundaries of a proverbial sequel and leverages next-gen technologies to deliver a truly surprising, innovative and exceptional game. The entire team is excited about the direction this extremely ambitious project is taking, and we'll have more to share later, as it progresses."

After all of the teasers, video clips, and art leaks, it's nice to hear that Jade and company will be getting another shot at the limelight. If you're reading this and don't understand what all the hubbub is about, go play the original BG+E and find out for yourself. There's an HD remake on the PSN and Xbox Live store, so the "it's hard to find a disc copy" excuse won't work. Go. Play it now.
