Former NBA Star Alonzo Mourning Charged for Leaving Scene of Highway Crash

Former NBA All-Star Alonzo Mourning is facing criminal charges after authorities say he left the scene of a highway accident in Miami on July 17.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Mourning’s Porsche Panamera S crashed into an Audi A4 around 3 a.m., just moments after the same Audi was overturned in another accident with a Chevrolet Impala. Neither driver were in their cars when Mourning’s car hit the Audi, the FHP said.

Money Woes Plague NBA As League Lays Off 114 Employees

The NBA laid off 114 people this week in a cost-cutting move it says was unrelated to the lockout. Sort of.

According to league spokesman Mike Bass, “The layoffs are not a direct result of the lockout but rather a response to the same underlying issue — that is, the league’s expenses far outpace our revenues.”

With the NBA claiming annual losses of $300 million, it’s unclear if more pink slips are coming.
