Ubisoft has released a new trailer for Assassin’s Creed Unity that introduces a major female Templar character. Titled 'Arno: Master Assassin,' this trailer presents a gorgeously rendered CG action sequence that illustrates the deadliness of Arno and provides a little insight into the game’s plot.

In the trailer, Arno traverses the rooftops of Paris before taking to ground to stop an execution. While the Assassin’s Creed series is primarily known for their stealth elements, Arno takes a more direct approach, taking on French soldiers in front of a large crowd. After dispatching his nameless foes, Arno leaps onto the guillotine’s platform, taking out the French commander with his hidden blade before freeing the condemned woman. After Arno removes her bonds, she takes off her hood to reveal her identity, a female Templar named Elise. The video ends with the two seemingly opposed characters going back-to-back in order to face an army of angry French soldiers. She could possibly be an Assassin spy posing as a Templar.

A special pre-order bonus is shown at the end of the video. Players who pre-order through Ubisoft’s U-Play Shop will receive a 24 cm full color statue, called “Elise the Fiery Templar,” along with a special in-game sword and pistol.

It’s interesting to see an Assassin seemingly teaming up with a Templar, and it indicates that the two opposing factions, who have been at war for centuries, living up to Unity's namesake. It's rather interesting that the rescued Templar is a female, since Assassin’s Creed: Could it be that a branch of the Templar split off and joined the Assassins over time? Unity will not include female Assassins as playable characters in its online co-op, but it's nice to see a female character at its story's forefront.

If you're going to play Assassin's Creed Unity, you need to know where to hide a body, and 5x5 knows where.
