Anheuser-Busch Facing Lawsuits For Watering Down Their Beer

I was under the impression that the beer industry was built on watered-down beer. Apparently not in the U.S. anymore. Yesterday, a group of people in California, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania filed a class action lawsuit against Anheuser-Busch for watering down their booze.

According to Mercury News, the lawsuit claims that water is added as the last step before the beer is put into bottles, cans, and kegs. This makes it so the alcohol content can be anywhere from 3% to 8% lower than the alcohol content on the label.

Budweiser and Michelob claim to be about 5% alcohol-by-volume on their labels. Bud Light claims to be about 4%. The law firms behind the suit say their independent testing found those claims are high. The suit actually involves 10 Anheuser-Busch products: Budweiser, Bud Ice, Bud Light Platinum, Michelob, Michelob Ultra, Hurricane High Gravity Lager, King Cobra, Busch Ice, Natural Ice and Bud Light Lime.

Anheuser-Busch is saying the lawsuit is groundless.

“Our beers are in full compliance with all alcohol labeling laws. We proudly adhere to the highest standards in brewing our beers, which have made them the best-selling in the U.S. and the world,” Peter Kraemer, vice president of brewing and supply, said in a statement.”

I’m pretty sure people will continue drinking their beer anyways!
